Fun in the Kitchen and Free Groceries!

Valentine's Day

This was not made in the kitchen, but it can not go unnoticed :) Amanda taught me how to make these paper roses out of scrapbook paper. I made a dozen roses, arranged them on paper, added gems and leaves and stuck them in a vase! :D My bouquet for Valentine's Day.

Sugar Cookie Fruit Pizza

My favorite dessert growing up, super simple to make, and fun to decorate with co-workers! :)

French Chocolate Mousse Cake

A wonderful lady in my ward from France let me borrow one of her recommended cookbooks with American measurements. I bought Lindt milk chocolate bars to work as my base chocolate ingredient. The mousse was made with home made whipping cream, baked into two small cakes, then the rest was poured into the middle. And topped with my version of a chocolate ganache. Everyone at work was so happy they hired me!! lol :)

Cream of Cilantro w/Broccoli & Cheddar

I was craving cream soup when I realized we had broccoli to use up. As I looked for recipes, I thought they were all too fattening. Then I remembered we had fresh cilantro Joseph used to make homemade salsa, the best salsa ever! And if that wasn't used up it would also go to waste. So I modified a Cream of Cilantro recipe (which is overall healthy w/sour cream, flour & milk as the cream base) and added broccoli in the puree and melted cheddar cheese.

Tortilla chips were the perfect texture and compliment to this creamy delight :)

Biscuit Sliders

After really wanting to lose my Newlywed 15 lbs. I told Joseph I was making Quiche for dinner. Well, he didn't really throw a fit but he definitely put his foot down, Quiche is not something he will probably ever want for dinner lol. So my plan had to change. I had to think quick, I saw bisquick mix and thought that would be a good staple until I realized biscuits is meant to go with a meal lol. Still quick on my feet, I thought hamburgers on the George Foreman Grill would be easy and fast. So I got my turkey meat out, thawed it, mixed it with wonderful ingredients and formed 7 patties that all fit on the grill at once. Then I made pintos and cheese, Taco Bell style. Simple, quick, and healthy....? No. Delicious, pleasing to my better half, and a creative invention? Precisely.

The burgers were topped with cheese, green onions, sour cream and mint chutney with a dab of mustard :) Gourmet indeed.

Sunflower Farmer's Market Grand Opening!

I set my alarm for 5:30 am, even though I had only gotten 4 hours of sleep the night before. Joseph didn't think I actually would get up, I doubted it too. The alarm clock went off and I nearly threw it against the ground lol. 6 a.m. comes around and I open eyes and decide I'm awake. So almost in a trance I put my clothes and head out the door, repeating to myself "first 200 people will get a grocery bag with $50 worth of groceries". I get there at approximately 6:09 a.m. and at least 100 people were standing outside the front door. I guess you can assume the rest of the story, I got there and they handed my coupon #150. I would have to make a purchase (no minimum required) so after waiting about an hour, chatting with nice people, and buying a few grocery items (including $.88 strawberries!) I walked out the door and was handed this huge bag!

I received: cherry tomatoes, loaf of bread, carrots, chocolate milk, bag of apples, all organic cookies and bars and treats, samples of chips and foods, lotions and tweezers. Also include were free item coupons. I am so grateful and happy I made it on time and it almost felt like Christmas one of my new friends said. It really did :)

I love you all!
