Public Transportation

I need to write about all the observations I've seen on my recent acquaintance with public transportation. Almost everyday I get on two busses and ride the Trax to get to school, work, and back home. (by the way, I'm writing this in my legal procedures class and my teacher is making me increasingly anxious because he said he needed to leave at 8:30 or he'd be late for a meeting, it's almost 8:40, he's a lawyer, what if it's important? ugh!)

Tuesday, I went to Walmart via trax. It was sunny, the sidewalk was hard on my feet and the appliance Liquidation store had a cute display painting on its window of a cartoon dishwasher giving me the "thumbs up". Just after I passed the store, I passed an alley. Kitty-cornering the alley there was a flat, children's cardboard package lying on the sidewalk. As it came closer to view, I was intrigued to learn what it was holding before it was thrown on the ground. Toy Handcuffs. My first thought was some guy asked his girlfriend to buy some handcuffs, probably from Walmart, (sound like Little Shop of Horrors?) and he couldn't wait to use them, either for real "inner alley" cops and robbers or something a little more kinky and obscene. I giggled to myself and raised one eyebrow, amused but disturbed.

Just a few steps forward and the reflection from a window turned my eye, it belonged to an unnamed, brick building with unnamed, rough people inside. Sitting on the ledge below the window was an ice cream cone, the cheap light-brown kind that has the criss-cross walls in the bottom. It looked like it never held ice cream, even though discarding it on a ledge would indicate some one was done with it, but it seemed never used. I wondered if the toy handcuffs might have any correlation, maybe some kids or a little mexican family having a good time, wandering the suburbs. It has also crossed my mind that it may be a sign, like tennis shoes on a telephone wire, for drugs or gangs, or maybe a social experiment to see who will touch it or throw it away. (by the way, my teacher finally left at 8:45, don't worry, I was paying attention and doing everything he asked us to do).

Sometimes imagination and analyzation can take me a little too far. But when it comes to public transportation and wandering the suburbs, I could have the imagination sucked dry from me and the things I see would suffice. I have been hit on, I have been stared at, and I have given a piece of gum to a nice stranger. I have seen crazy/simple minds, I have heard several cuss words, and have sat close to an actor who tried to make me feel sorry for him to give him money (maybe I made that up, but he did try to get money from me). All in all, I will have many more experiences to share as me and public transportation continue to see each other.

I love my husband!

The End
